Trials of the Unemployed

This summer class has been a whole different world. Why? Because I am no longer working my internship and because the class only takes up 2.5 hours of my day - AT MOST. So what do I do the rest of the day? Eat. Sleep. Shop. Trust me, I'm not complaining, but I've come to recognize certain annoyances of being a stay-at-home wife. For example, yesterday when I went to Marshall's in the middle of the day, there were a handful of older women there - all of whom had carts and blocked the ENTIRE aisle. Is a cart REALLY necessary for an afternoon trip to Marshall's? I guess only if their intention was to block the aisle to prevent young people like me from finding the really good finds before they do. It is possible. I found 2 Lilly dresses yesterday, but did not bother trying them on because then I would have had to buy them. Restraint. Only by necessity because I do not start my new job for another 2 weeks. Also another problem: if there is a repeat of ANYTHING on TLC or Oprah, chances are that I have seen it. So then I must resort to TRL. Not so bad, but I know I missed Justin Timberlake on Oprah yesterday, so why can't they just reply that one instead of the one with the grandma with the 15 inch waist. I didn't want to see that one the first time. Class will be over tomorrow and then I must pack, move and resume the life of a working women. Sighhh.

The end of MAY? What?

Where did the semester go? It was SO MUCH busier than I had anticipated. When there was procrastination of schoolwork, I was busy with my internship or oh yeah...the wedding.

But all the work paid off because I got good grades, finished my internship and got a J.O.B. Just two more weeks of my summer class and I am officially dunzo and officially a MASTER of education. What? Yes. Me.

I'm very excited and nervous about the move. Just Billy and I in a moving truck from Virginia to Florida. Approx. 1000 miles and fifteen hours. We'll split it up into two days - but still. I have never moved that far. And then there is the new job - Jackie Hudgins, Admissions Counselor. Please, come into my office - let me advise you on your LIFE. Exactly the job I want, but there is a lot of anxiety about adjusting to a new work environment and being the new girl for a while. Good thing I am a MASTER of education, so I should catch on pretty quickly. :)

There are so many daily things that have been happening that have been blog-worthy, so hopefully I will be better at documenting them. For now - Happy Memorial Day! I'm off to the pool with The Great Gatsby.

So Many Things.

Wow - it has been a while. Winter break happened, then Christmas, my cruise, wedding planning, and now school is back in action! What that really means is now I have so much more to do, which means I have more reasons to procrastinate! So I have been ruminating about several things the past few days and a few things have happened....see below.

#1 Why is the Super Bowl on a Sunday? Everyone inevitably goes to work hungover on Monday. What would be so tough about moving it to Saturday? Or possible even MLK weekend so Monday is a holiday. However, I would bet that no less people are watching b/c it is on a Sunday. Tom Brady is the hottness, but I will still pull for the G-Men.

#2 I have learned. When I know I am going to make brownies, I buy two boxes now. Instead of having to run to the store b/c I have ruined batch #1, I now have a back-up box. It came in handy today. I hope everyone enjoys the fruits of my labor.

#3 I forgot what it is like to be a single girl. My friend Sarah called me to go out at 9:30pm last night and I declined for several reasons. 1) It was sort of late and I was already in my pajamas laying on my couch. 2) How would I get there & get home? 3) Beer=calories and it IS the Year of the Bride. Who am I kidding though? In college and the couple year after I didn't go out until at least 10pm. And what about when I lived in DC? I walked several blocks alone to get to Adams Morgan! And now that I live in Charlottesville I won't walk down the street? Puh-lease. But I can't argue with the calories part. Must fit into wedding dress.

#4 I got stuck in the trolley on Friday. Literally. There are 2 doors to the trolley - one in the front & one in the back. The back door opened as a passenger exited and it looked like an entrance to me. Until the door closed on me. And didn't open like an elevator door would. So I was stuck there like an idiot while I hollered to the drive to open the door. Oh - and she hollered right back! About how I only need to use the front door. Give me a break.

#5 I feel sorry for the people getting our wedding invitations that have been addressed by me. My mom did most of them, but not all of them. So many errors and such messy handwriting. Sorry!

I think that about sums it up for now. I have a paper due every week for the rest of the semester, so I expect many more entries in the coming months.

Cold Continues

Lighting of the Lawn was a lot of anticipation and not a lot of lights. See above. Also a lot of cold and not enough socks to keep our feet warm. If my mom were here, she would have told me to wear heavier socks.Wow, we have no necks! Photo by Ed Warwick. If you were in our class, you would laugh.

What snow day?

So yesterday it snowed - alll day! But it did not stick and classes or work were not cancelled. This is why snow is a pain when you are adult. Or a twenty-something. It was just a cold, wet day for me. Notice my enthusiasm that I captured in the photo. The day was topped off with a take-home final that looks like it may take an entire semester to write! But I see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we will be released into freedom on December 11th. Then I have NOTHING to do but go shopping(with all my $$$?), go CRUISING in the Caribbean and the last bits of wedding planning until mid-January! I ain't got no job, I ain't got **** to do!

Tonight is Lighting of the Lawn, a UVA tradition...not totally sure what to expect, but I will bring my camera. Also need to find a cute hostess gift to bring to Sarah's "after-party". This is another part of being grown up. When in college did I EVER bring anything to any of my friend's houses? My sparkling personality is no longer enough.

Just Some Bad Eggs

So as I was getting near the stopping point of writing my Curriculum paper tonight, I thought to myself, hmm...brownies would be great right now. And lo and behold, I actually had a brownie mix in my cabinet and I had all the ingredients! Until I looked at the eggs and saw the Best By: date. November 19. That's not too long ago, right? So I hop on google to make sure I will not get salmanila, ecoli, or something worse as I just discovered the uselessness of my health insurance. And I read about a test you can do to see if the eggs will float. If they stand up in the water, you have a bad egg, but if they lay on their side, you're golden. And what do you think happened? Of course, mine nearly defied gravity. So that means no brownies for me. That should be a sign, right? Like get back to work and stop eating! But instead, I am making banana-nut muffins that just require water. Fool proof. But let it be known that I could not successfully bake a potato for dinner. Good thing Billy knows his way around the kitchen! For now, at least I learned something about floating eggs.

5 months!

I can't believe it is December! That means FIVE months until the wedding! I went to the stationary store as soon as it opened this morning and I was very pleased with the results! Now comes the fun part of finding everyone's addresses! But that will be saved for a later date.

In the mean time I have 2 papers and 2 presentations to work on for next week. Almost 1/2 way finished with grad school!
